Remove the Split System and Supply and Install a New Panasonic Ducted Air Conditioner

The Project

This client had been using a split system air conditioning system for many years and decided to upgrade to a ducted air conditioning system that vented the airflow to every room in the house.

The split system had to be decommissioned and removed including repairing any marks the unit had left.

The Solution

This home has 4 bedrooms, a study, a kid’s activity room, a lounge and an open-plan kitchen and family room. The task was to vent the airflow to every room using ducted piping which was inserted into the cavity of the roof. Vents were placed in each room with 2 vents being installed in the kitchen family area.

To generate enough power to heat and cool these rooms we chose a Panasonic S-160PE3R/U-160PZH2R5 ducted system that came with an Airtouch controller.

The outdoor unit was hung from the brick wall and 30cm above the ground.

Controlling the Ducted System Air Conditioner

Smart air conditioning controllers that are compatible with leading air conditioning brands are made by Airtouch. The Airtouch 5 series with 1 central remote controller and 8 sensors was our choice. The Airtouch 5 features a digital display that is installed on the wall that allows the user to adjust the airflow temperature in each area. Additionally, you can operate the system with a smartphone app.

Removing the Split System Air Conditioner

Once we decommissioned the split system we set about removing the wall-hanging unit from the living room area. We removed all the electrical cabling and then took away the outdoor unit. Once this was complete we tidied up the internal wall where the AC was installed. This included painting and plastering any holes and cavities.

Installing the New Ducted Air Conditioner

We drew up the plana and determined where the best place to insert the vents in each room was to optimise the airflow. All the ducted vent piping was laid inside the roof from the one outlet that was centralised. Each pipe was directed above each room where we cut out the vents. We also added 8 x opposed blade dampers.

The outdoor unit was hung off the brick veneer wall and sat approximately 30cm above the ground.
